Breaking the Silence: Our Mental Health Awareness Drive

Mental illness affects one in four people worldwide, yet stigma and misinformation keep many from seeking help. In response, Cilias Health Foundation launched the Breaking the Silence Campaign—a year-long public awareness project aimed at normalizing conversations about mental health across schools, workplaces, and faith communities.

Through radio programs, town hall meetings, and social media advocacy, the campaign reached more than 50,000 listeners and participants in its first six months. We collaborated with psychiatrists and counselors to provide free mental health screenings and referrals in urban and rural settings alike.

Highlights of the Campaign

  • Hosted 10 community workshops on depression, anxiety, and trauma recovery.Trained 30 volunteers as “Mental Health First Aiders.
  • Launched a 24-hour helpline connecting individuals to professional support.

One participant, Chika, shared her experience after attending a workshop: “I realized I wasn’t alone in my struggle. Now I speak openly about my journey and encourage others to get help.”

By breaking the silence, we are building a society where mental wellness is treated with the same urgency and compassion as physical health. The journey has only begun, and every conversation counts.
