Teenagers often face enormous pressure—from peers, social media, and an overwhelming world of misinformation. At Cilias Health Foundation, we launched the Teen Health & Mentorship Program to provide accurate information on sexual health, mental wellness, and self-esteem while fostering leadership and empathy among youth. Working through local schools and youth centers, our volunteers conduct interactive workshops covering topics like menstrual hygiene, nutrition, emotional intelligence, and substance abuse prevention. Each student is paired with a trained mentor who offers one-on-one guidance and serves as a trusted confidant. Program Highlights: Over 1,000 students reached in 15 schools across Lagos and Ogun states. Created a peer-led “Health Ambassador Club” that promotes mental health awareness. Hosted virtual mentorship sessions featuring healthcare professionals and psychologists. For 16-year-old Aisha, one of the program’s beneficiaries, the experience was life-changing: “Before, I was scared to talk about my body or my feelings. Now I know my worth, and I help my friends understand theirs too We believe empowering teens with knowledge today creates healthier families and stronger communities tomorrow.

Mental illness affects one in four people worldwide, yet stigma and misinformation keep many from seeking help. In response, Cilias Health Foundation launched the Breaking the Silence Campaign —a year-long public awareness project aimed at normalizing conversations about mental health across schools, workplaces, and faith communities. Through radio programs, town hall meetings, and social media advocacy, the campaign reached more than 50,000 listeners and participants in its first six months. We collaborated with psychiatrists and counselors to provide free mental health screenings and referrals in urban and rural settings alike. Highlights of the Campaign Hosted 10 community workshops on depression, anxiety, and trauma recovery.Trained 30 volunteers as “Mental Health First Aiders. Launched a 24-hour helpline connecting individuals to professional support. One participant, Chika, shared her experience after attending a workshop: “I realized I wasn’t alone in my struggle. Now I speak openly about my journey and encourage others to get help.” By breaking the silence, we are building a society where mental wellness is treated with the same urgency and compassion as physical health. The journey has only begun, and every conversation counts.

Every year, millions of people in underserved regions live with avoidable blindness due to cataracts, refractive errors, or untreated infections. At Cilias Health Foundation, we refuse to let geography determine access to care. In partnership with local hospitals and volunteer optometrists, our Rural Eye Care Outreach aims to restore sight and hope. In July 2024, our mobile clinic traveled to six remote communities across Kaduna and Plateau states. Villagers who had never seen an eye specialist before were screened, treated, and, in many cases, given free eyeglasses on the spot. Our surgical team also performed over 120 cataract operations in just one week Stories of Impact Among them was 68-year-old farmer Musa Abdullahi, who hadn’t seen clearly in years. “I thought I would die blind,” he said after surgery. “Now I can see my grandchildren again.” His joy mirrors that of countless others who received care through this initiative. Key Achievements Screened over 2,000 patients in rural communities. Distributed 800 pairs of prescription eyeglasses. Performed 120 free cataract surgeries Trained 15 local volunteers in basic vision screening. Our goal for 2025 is to expand the program to ten more communities, ensuring that no one loses their sight simply because they were born far from a hospital.
